Happy Thanksgiving!

The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God.

.....

I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens. And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquillity and Union.

God writes a lot of comedy....The trouble is, he's stuck with so many bad actors who don't know how to play funny.

True Life Funny

I recently received the second birth announcement from college friends - this seems unusual that so many women I know (or aware of) are giving birth within the same 2 to 3 weeks. Which caused me to ask the question, "What was going on about nine months before November 17?"

They're all very original. :D

Weekend Round up

1. I lost my voice cheering here - and we went home at halftime (freezing cold) to watch it on the tube.
2. I broke down and went to this - and I had a good time (though there's a whole history as to why I hate to admit it.)
3. and I prepared for a major decision in 9 or 21 months, depending on circumstances. Though vague, you can feel free to pray that I'll have wisdom in this matter.

Friday Photo

I like this photo. I'm not sure why, except it was taken in an antique shop, and harkens back to a different time. So, Happy Friday!

Wanting to see (or not)

DMM and I Caught a bit of the A&E Pride and Prejudice last night. The mother is (appropriately) annoying, but she is very humorous if you can like her for the foolish woman that she is. "I do not see that, why should I see that!?" It's also very scary how much of that movie I can recite.

Which reminds me - This Pride and Prejudice hasn't intrigued me ("That preview makes it look like it's about a meddlesome aunt." ~DMM)

But this, I'm thinking I'd even pay full price for.

And I Can't Wait. for this.

Figures

I have the incredible luck of running into my ex-boyfriend when I'm looking Particularly...uh..."casual."
As in I-just-went-on-a-run-with-my-coworker/friend-and-have-a-nice-case-of-hat-hair
-but-in-my-typical-idiotic-way-figured-that-NO-ONE-would-be-at-the-new-coffee-shop-
what-was-I-thinking?" casual. Of course, to counteract my too-large sweatshirt, icky face and old adidas warmups, he was all put together in his business casual "I'm-6-foot-5-and-need-my-shirts-taken-in-because-I'm-THAT-tall-and-svelt."

Don't forget the last time I ran into him (almost literally) It was in walmart on a Saturday. No shower.

Yes, I have a gift.

(Real life) Tuesday Quote

Real life, because it's what Christian wrote yesterday.

"Too many times, what I really want from the church is my own little wish dream. I want friends for my sake, not Christ's. What I need to desire is not others, not even the church (at least not as an end). I need to desire God."
You just nailed my nature, Christian.

and the gospel:

Fortunately, God's grace doesn't leave us to ourselves. It shatters us with a life full of hardship and dissappointments - it will not let us find rest anywhere but in God.

Seven 7s

Seven things to do before I die:
1. Go to Austria
2. Learn to make my grandma's stewed chicken recipe
3. Have as good a relationship (or better) with LSG as Madre and her sister’s friendship.
4. Immediately trust God fully in a moment of confusion or fear
5. Learn web design

7. Stay angry

Because I can't fill in "Seven things that attract me to Hubby"
Seven things that attract me to a guy (not necessarily in this order):
1. Intelligence
2. Wisdom/Loving God
3. Good humor and wit
4. Looking me in the eye (Confidence)
5. Chuckling at my passionate rants (not taking me too seriously)
6. Creativity (Artist, musician, etc).
7. Kind

Seven things I say most often:
1. Love ya
2. Pookie-Boo!/Hey Buddy!/Hi Sweetie! (or joyfully exclaiming another nickname of one of my siblings or friends)

Seven people I want to join in, too:
1. Little Shoe Girl

Maybe I shouldn't admit this

When I was in 4th grade, our sunday school teacher made us memorize Psalm 19. I remember my friend (now attending Covenant Seminary) REALLY liking it.

I never liked it.

Madre and I were just discussing that. How there are passages of scripture you memorize, and you know you SHOULD like it, but it just doesn't hit home. (Madre really likes Psalm 19, and doesn't share my apathy toward it.)

Now, Scripture that just blows me over? Romans 8:24-27. Psalm 25. Psalm 3. Love 'em. And there are also verses I've memorized when I was young, the ones I look back on, and I at least go "Yeah, that really did meet me where I needed it, back then."

Psalm 19? Well, I love verse 14, but other than that, the whole bridegroom thing just makes me go "huh."

Now that I've admitted that, I'll eat my words in about 3 months. It's generally the way my life goes. :D

More things that just shouldn't exist in our known universe.

Gingerbread creamer is living in our downstairs fridge. Obviously someone (I love dearly) didn't get the memo.

Also, tough, wood-y tasting Granny Smith Apples. (They're SO. GOOD. usually. Nothing worse than a good thing gone wrong.)

Ta-daaaa!

Hey, Anniversaire heureux à moi! (I would have written it "Bon Anniversaire pour moi" but this would just prove that my french is just about as bad as it was in college, when I squeeked by with a "C"!)

It's been (about) a year of posting thoughts, and for the last few weeks I've been working on my template - very bored with the old one. So, welcome to the second year of thoughts - Random, funny and (mostly) otherwise.

The only sad part is that the comments posted to the old template have been lost. :( I think I've downloaded them somewhere, but according to haloscan, I have to cut and copy them into the proper places. We'll see if I get bored enough to do that.

And just know I'm glad that you're reading this. And not just for my ego's sake...

mostly. ;)

Oh, and no. I'm not above using puppies for the "awwww!" factor.

Saturday, November 5

Wow, what a feminist.

No, not really, but I suppose that you might think so, after having the Tuesday quote up all week (or thereabouts.)

I went to oversee a nearby event for work with no internet access (to speak of). The best part was the 2 hours in the car on the way back with my mentor and biblical counselor. Its just the tiniest bit creepy how she can uncover things in my heart that I've never thought about, and yet make absolute sense. I feel a bit free-er after talking with her. I guess that makes for a great biblical counselor.

I'll get some stories ready for you, but in the meantime, here's a real life quote.

Ains: "So I was in Walmart, looking for pajamas, talking to my mom on the phone."
Co-worker "You are not one of those people who talks on the phone all the time in stores because they're afraid of being alone, are you?"
"No. I'm afraid of being bored."
