Poll of the Day April 8

What one kitchen item can you not live without? (i.e., if I had to add something to my sparse wedding registry, what would it be?)

Answer in the comments!

Spice rack. But not just any spice rack. Go for one with ample supplied shakers.

Or a Cuisinart coffee maker.

Does the cuisinart coffee maker make more than 8 cups of coffee? I worked at a place w/ an 8 cup coffee maker, and I've never been so frustrated with the eternal need to brew coffee!

Ains, get the Cuisinart Grind & Brew. You can brew up to 12 cups of delicious, freshly ground coffee with the class-carafe version. I sacrificed two extra cups to get the one with a thermal decanter, which offers several advantages (eternally hot coffee, unbreakable, aesthetics/stainless steel). But if that extra two cups is what you need most, get the glass one. Just order an extra carafe right away because they're very fragile, especially vs. granite countertops :^|

Oh, and congrats!

Wedding gifts I've used 100 million times: Crockpot, Giant skillet, Airbake cookie sheets, Pyrex casserole dishes, Nice glass serving bowls, Digital kitchen scale, Bamboo cutting boards, Luggage(I know this isn't kitchen items, but best. gift. ever.)

Wedding gifts still in the box: Deep fat fryer, Large roaster(I haven't had to cook a holiday meal yet), Pancake griddle, Muffin pans

Gifts received that weren't on my registry, but I LOVE: Bread basket, Metal strainer, Pizza stone, Cooling racks, Pampered chef veggie serving tray

Wish I had added to my registry and ended up buying anyway: Dehydrator(yeah, I'm weird), Cupcake/Cake Caddy, Tupperware bowls, Really good knifes, spices (backing up jim's comment), kitchenaid mixer

Did NOT register for:china and silver(didn't have a place to put it and didn't want to find one.)

Hope this helps! Remember to put giftcards on your registry too. Giftcards=Awesomeness

Used often in my kitchen: good mixing bowls (I like melamine with a pour spout -- Williams-Sonoma has some good ones), these measuring cups, large baking sheets, rice cooker, cutting boards, large colander, good utensils (I'm replacing all my cheap stuff with All-Clad, slowly but surely), good knives that hang on a magnetic strip on the wall, and large platters and bowls for serving.

The small spatula...if i had a picture i would show you...I LOVE IT! I know that sounds simple and crazy but it is seriously my favorite! I will find a picture for you! :)

Definitely use a big nonstick skillet and some good spatulas the most. A measuring cup for liquids comes in handy a lot more than i thought it would, too...

ditto what Andrea says about serving bowls (although I don't have any nice glass ones!).

Okay, you are about to enter the real world (kitchen) and there's more to it than coffee makers! :) I'm a gadget gal, and there are many I would not want to do without. My one thing I couldn't do without? My Kitchen Aid mixer. It's been my faithful friend for 25 years or more. A close second would be *good* knives!

I love my Kitchen Aid mixer and I (after the wedding) a Pampered Chef chopper. I HATE chopping so that was great!! I also want a wok but didn't think to register for one. I need a ladel, small one, didn't get it and wish I had it. And of course, you can never have enough wooden spoons, spatulas, etc.
Oh Fun!! I'm SOOO happy for you and SUPER excited you get to go through all this!! It's weird and fantastic at the same time!! After it's over you are sad for a couple weeks (after all, we've looked forward to it for... forever). But after a few months, you can't be more glad it's all over and you just get to be married ;)
By the way, write thank you cards as you go (for showers) and do them sooner after the wedding instead of later. You lose motivation the later it gets.
And I could keep going...
Where are you registering?

We registered for an electic griddle... I have no idea why...I don't even think we really knew what it was or what it did...but we finally used it last month and it was amazing! It made the most beautiful pancakes I have ever seen! Someday I will enjoy a Kitchen Aide mixer as well, but for now I am working on my muscles.
Love you!!

Okay, Hannah, my Pampered Chef chopper has to be the thing I use most often. It's amazingly easy to chop anything in a quick minute! Kitchen-Aid mixer is a must too!! :)

cutco knives...they are the best!

I had to add here, too. I would say my pampered chef baking stones (1 pizza and 1 jelly roll). These cover making cookies, granola, pizzas and just about anything else.

Hannah,

Congratulations!!!!! We are so happy for you. I feel like such a heel for losing touch with you. Totally my fault, I've been a boob.

Being engaged is the best, till you get married. This is such a great blessing. Congratulations again. When is the big day?
